Position: AVP, Data Governance & Analytics
Location: Santa Monica, CA
Work Structure: Onsite 4 days/week to start; potential for hybrid flexibility after onboarding

Role Type: Individual Contributor
Compensation: Up to $200K base salary; bonus eligibility begins after year one


Technical Environment & Responsibilities

  • Business Intelligence & Reporting:

    • Primary tool: Tableau (must be highly proficient)
    • Secondary tool: Power BI
  • Database Management:

    • Strong command of SQL Server required
    • Must be skilled in writing and optimizing stored procedures, joins, and queries
  • Programming:

    • Python experience is a plus, especially for future automation initiatives
  • Data Operations:

    • Emphasis on data validation, reconciliation, documentation, stewardship, and governance
    • No current ETL or pipeline ownership, but automation and scalability are future priorities
    • Data sourced from external trading platforms; normalized internally (no internal accounting system)
    • Experience with security master and fixed income product data is highly valued
  • Project Management Tools:

    • Familiarity with Jira is a nice-to-have for workflow tracking
  • Governance Contribution:

    • Help build scalable data governance frameworks
    • Note: Data architecture is handled by the software/dev team

Role Scope & Focus

  • Primary Function:

    • Hands-on technical execution with a focus on data quality and reporting
    • Not a strategic or leadership role; no direct cross-functional or team management responsibilities
  • Collaboration:

    • Limited daily interaction with investment desks
    • Must understand fixed income instruments (e.g., loans, auctions, bonds)
  • Roadmap Involvement:

    • Some input on long-term planning, but main focus is on delivery and internal system improvements
    • Supports CEO-facing data governance efforts (e.g., risk and performance data teams)

Expectations & Daily Workflow

  • Onsite Requirement:

    • 4 days/week initially for onboarding
    • May reduce to 3 days/week once fully ramped up
  • Immediate Priorities:

    • Learn internal data structures and benchmark against industry best practices
    • Enhance reconciliation processes
    • Support documentation, governance, and dashboard/report development
  • Must-Have Qualifications:

    • Strong proficiency in SQL and Tableau
    • Experience reconciling financial data, ideally within a hedge fund or asset management environment
    • Familiarity with fixed income product data
    • Preference for candidates with 3+ years at the same organization, due to the steep learning curve
